Why is mindset important?
Mindset is the product of repetitive thoughts and logical patterns in your brain, forming the “bigger picture” of you and your health. It has been scientifically proven that negative thoughts, forming a negative fixed mindset, directly increase depression, anxiety, and fear. These three challenges can then prevent you from getting healthier.
Why do we choose behaviors that are not consistent with what we truly desire?
You may desire to feel healthier, but you keep falling into the same behaviors that counteract good health. These are actions you commit because you’re stuck in the negative fixed mindset.
Are you in command of your mindset, or is someone else controlling it?
Every day, you receive conflicting messages and constant stimuli from your environment: the Internet, TV ads, social media. You may not be able to turn off the white noise completely, but you can determine whether you will allow it to affect your thoughts and your path to good health.
Your mindset is under your control. Your desire to feel healthier depends on you cultivating your own success mindset and setting the course.
In the beginning, most of the work is done in the mind. We can accomplish this together.
Common Questions About Mindset
What is mindset?
Mindset is a general “message” about yourself or your situation. It forms and solidifies from your constant daily thoughts and logical processes. Think of your mindset as a sweeping general landscape of you and your health if you were looking at it from a balcony.
It looks permanently set in its formation, right? But up close, your mindset is simply made up of smaller thoughts and processes that are constantly moving as you move through your day. If you purposefully changed one thought at a time, it would completely overhaul that landscape, making a brand new success mindset.
What is a fixed mindset?
A fixed mindset results when your thought processes and messages/conclusions sent to your brain are the same for weeks, months, or even years. Common examples of a fixed mindset include:
- “This is how I’ve always worked out…I can’t adapt to a different exercise.”
- “My mother had heart disease…I’m going to suffer from heart disease, too.”
- “I’ll never drop 20 pounds by this date, so I may as well embrace this extra fat and quit my diet.”
- “I felt great last time I worked out…I know I’ll feel good this time, too!”
- “I don’t need to work this much at the office, I accomplished as much as I could today.”
You can train your mind and change your mindset to be positive or negative.
How do I change my mindset?
Changing your mindset starts with a desire: a longing to move from where you feel stuck to where you want to be. You get to choose and control your mindset.
But it isn’t an instant or easy overnight transformation. Changing your mindset requires three things:
- A desire to change to a success mindset.
- A conscious vigilance of the thoughts you have each day.
- A consistency to staying present in the moment of your thought processes for the next several weeks or months.
Your brain and mindset can be retrained within a matter of weeks or in some cases, it may take longer.
For example, if you want to shift your mindset from “I’ll never be skinny” to feel more body positive, repeating a thought mantra of “My body is beautiful when it’s healthy inside and out” can improve your mindset in as little as a month. You’ll notice you start to feel a certain “glow” after going to the gym, or perhaps you’ll feel inspired to choose more organic and whole foods because you know it will lead to better skin, hair and nail appearance.
